Today is World Veterinary Day! || NVMA Celebrates, Honours Heroic Dog

Happy World Veterinary Day to every veterinarian out there!

In 2000, The World Veterinary Association {WVA} began celebrating World Veterinary Day on the last Saturday of April. The purpose was to celebrate veterinarians and promote the work of vet professionals from all over the world.

World Veterinary Day is themed every year. This year’s theme is Antimicrobial Resisitance: From Awareness to Actions!

Furthermore, the Nigerian Veterinary Medical Association  [NVMA] will honour this occasion with a national celebration.

This will be held at the Delta State Capital- Asaba with the Executive Governor of the State,  His Excellency, Governor Ifeanyi Okowa of Delta State as the Chief Host and Chief Audu Ogbe, Hon Minister, Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development as the Special Guest of Honour among other dignitaries.

A lecture on this theme will be delivered by the internationally renowned Pharmacologist and former Vice Chancellor, Federal University, Aguoye, Prof IU ASUZU.
According to a press release by Hon . Dr. Godwin Abonyi-The NVMA National President, a posthumous award will also be given to the heroic dog named Teacher who sacrificially saved the lives of guests at a wedding party in Jere, Bornu State earlier this month. The NVMA also intends to replace the dog to Alhaji Mallum- Teacher’s owner.
